California knows how to stick it to the thousands of drivers who drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol in the Golden State every year. In addition to having your license suspended for at least 4 months (1-year suspension for a second DUI), in California, a DUI will remain on your driving record for 10 years! That means that your car insurance rates will be higher for that time period. In order to keep your driving privileges in California you need to have special auto insurance coverage.

With dozens of car insurance companies, and hundreds of local insurance agents in California, DUI offenders can still find affordable auto insurance coverage options. It takes a lot of shopping around because different insurance companies specialize in different types of drivers. There are insurance companies in California that offer competitive (relative) insurance rates for drivers with a DUI on their driving record.

California SR 22 Proof of Certificate

In addition to the standard proof of insurance that car insurance companies give all policy holders, California DUI offenders are required to have an SR 22 filed. This is an additional service that your insurance agent or company will provide when you find coverage. The SR 22 will be filed with the California DMV by your insurance agent.

California's Low Cost Auto Insurance Program for Drivers Who Simply Can't Find Coverage
